ごうめ【合目】

〔登山口から頂上までを 10 に分けて行程を測る表記法〕 a Japanese measurement of the height of a mountain, based on a division into the ten stages taken to climb it; 《the fourth》 stage [station].

●富士山の 8合目まで登って一休みした. We climbed Mt. Fuji as far as the eighth stage [station] and then took a rest.

合目石 a stone marker indicating one of the ten stages in the ascent of a mountain.
